A Duarte gang member received two life terms in prison without the possibility of parole Monday for the killings of two men and the wounding of a woman at a vigil to mourn a previous shooting victim in Pasadena in 2017.
Isaiah Jack Daniels, 27, was the last of four convicts to be sentenced for the Jan. 6 attack at 100 block of West Claremont Street that claimed the lives of Antione Sutphen Jr. and Ormoni Duncan, both 24. Another man and woman were also wounded in the shooting.
One of the killers, Derion Davon Lee, 36, was also convicted of the murder of Brandon Douglas, 25, on Dec. 22, 2016. The victims of the January shooting were gathered at a vigil for Douglas when they came under fire.
A jury convicted Daniels on Dec. 26, 2018, of two counts of murder, two counts of attempted murder, one count of shooting at an inhabited dwelling and one count of conspiracy to commit murder. The jury also found true special allegations including personal use of a firearm and a gang enhancement, court officials said.
He was found and arrested in Mississippi before being returned to Los Angeles County to face trial.
In addition to the two life terms without parole eligibility, Daniels also faces an additional 25 years to life stemming from the other convictions, court officials said.
Two more men convicted of murder and other charges in connection with the killings of Sutphen and Duncan, John Wesley Robinson and Pernell Barnes, have also been sentenced to two life terms in prison without the possibility of parole.
A third defendant arrested in connection with the Jan. 6 shooting, Andrew Vasquez, was acquitted of all charges and released from custody.
Both deadly shootings, as well as several other shootings that plagued the area in late-2016 and early-2017, was believed to have stemmed from a feud between Pasadena- and Duarte-area street gangs, police said at the time.
