Light Weekend Rain Expected in Pasadena Saturday, Sunday

Forecasters said Friday that the first storm of the spring season will arrive in the Southland this weekend, with rain expected Saturday and Sunday.

The storm was described as “a very modest system at best with regard to rainfall amounts,” with Saturday’s rain lasting only a few hours in any one location and expected to arrive in the region around mid-morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Cooler daytime temperatures are expected, too, with highs of 61 forecast in downtown Los Angeles both days. Overnight lows will stay in the 40s and lower 50s, dipping into the upper 30s Sunday night in the Antelope Valley.

Some additional light showers are expected Sunday as well.

The rain will move on by Monday, with partially cloudy skies and mild weather in store for most of the week before the possible return of more rain on Friday.

Here is the latest forecast for Pasadena from the National Weather Service, as of 3:59 a.m.  on Saturday morning

Saturday: Rain. High near 60. Southwest wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Saturday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers before 11 p.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 45. West northwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Sunday: There is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11 a.m. It will be mostly sunny, with a high near 60. The wind will be 5 to 10 mph, increasing to 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon. It could gust as high as 25 mph. New rainfall amounts will be between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts are possible in thunderstorms.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 43. West northwest wind 10 to 15 mph becoming north in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph.

Monday: Sunny, with a high near 66.
