Dr. Phlunté Riddle announced on Tuesday that she has picked up the endorsement of Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis.

Riddle is running for the Assembly seat occupied by Chris Holden, who will term out.

“As California faces a housing and homelessness crisis, I trust Dr. Phlunté Riddle to partner with us to address the root causes and deliver impactful solutions. With a career in public safety, Phlunté has seen firsthand what works. She’ll advocate for effective policies that move people from streets into stable housing with wraparound mental health services,” said Solis in a prepared statement released on Tuesday.

Supervisor Solis represents Los Angeles County’s First Supervisorial District, which includes the City of Los Angeles and the San Gabriel Valley.

Elected in 2014, Supervisor Solis has worked to address homelessness, climate injustice, and community safety.

Before her tenure on the County Board of Supervisors, Supervisor Solis served as President Barack Obama’s Secretary of Labor, in the U.S. House of Representatives, the State Senate, and the State Assembly.

“I am honored to earn Supervisor Hilda Solis’ endorsement in my campaign for State Assembly. She is a dedicated leader and champion for Los Angeles County working families. I am ready to work with her to address California’s toughest challenges and advocate for more good-paying jobs and educational opportunities,” Riddle said.

Riddle spent nearly 30 years at the Pasadena Police Department, moving through the ranks as a patrol officer, detective, and community liaison. She broke barriers when she became the first African American female sergeant, lieutenant, and then sworn Adjutant to the Chief of Police in the history of the Pasadena Police Department.

In 2019, Governor Gavin Newsom appointed her as a Board of Juvenile Discharge Hearings Commissioner with California’s Division of Juvenile Justice, which the California Senate confirmed with a 39-0 vote. She owns a consulting company, where she trains executives helping them to solve generational communications challenges within organizations.

Riddle served the Foothill communities as Assemblymember Chris Holden’s District Director. She helped him expand the College and Career Access Pathways program that allows high school students to take college and vocational training courses. Together, she and Assemblymember Holden pursued solutions that work for expanding the Gold Line, mental health services, public safety, and cleaner energy.

Dr. Riddle has been married for over 40 years to her husband, Edgar. Together, they have three married sons and six amazing grandchildren.

Assemblymember Chris Holden (D) has held this seat since 2012 and cannot seek reelection in 2024 due to term limits. In 2022, he won the district with 60% of the vote.
