The Madison Heights Neighborhood Association will hold its annual meeting on Tuesday, May 14, at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium of Allendale School at 1135 S Euclid Ave. in Pasadena. The event aims to enhance communication between the neighborhood association, its members, and the City, according to Madison Heights Neighborhood Association President John Latta.

“Our number one goal at all of our meetings are to enhance and improve communication, both from our neighborhood association, but from our members to us and the City,” Latta said. “We want to create a forum where everyone can state their opinions and we can understand their opinions.”

The meeting will feature updates from District 7 Councilmember Jason Lyon at 6:40 p.m., followed by insights from Pasadena Unified School District Board Members Dr. Yarma Velázquez and Patrice Marshall McKenzie at 7:10 p.m.

Madison Heights Neighborhood Association Secretary Glenn Camhi will provide an update on the Landmark District at 7:40 p.m., informing attendees about progress in preserving the neighborhood’s historic charm.

“Our neighborhood has been long committed to historic preservation, and we’ve seen the success of landmark districts within our area already and those in other parts of the city,” Latta explained.

The meeting will conclude with the Madison Heights Neighborhood Association Board election and a closing discussion at 7:45 p.m., allowing participants to voice their opinions and elect new Board members. Latta said these discussions are important, just as last year’s was “so effective and so helpful.”

Latta also spoke about the Madison Heights Neighborhood Association’s three main concerns: development adjacent to the community, traffic parking and greenways, and schools, particularly Allendale. He said the group supports changing the city’s restriction on overnight parking for accessory dwelling units that don’t have appropriate parking.

The Madison Heights Neighborhood Association also plans to introduce an electronic fundraising situation similar to Zelle and organize more neighborhood events, such as the annual July 4th parade and picnic, native plant gardening workshops, and barbecue cook-offs, Latta said.
