Police arrested a man and woman Tuesday after they used someone else’s identifying information to buy a car from a Toyota dealership in Pasadena, authorities said.
The suspects were taken into custody about noon at a home in La Puente after officers followed the signal from a GPS tracker installed in the Toyota Camry that had recently been purchased from Toyota of Pasadena, 3600 E. Foothill Blvd., according to Pasadena police Lt. Sean Dawkins.
The dealership notified police after discovering the car had been purchased through identity theft, Dawkins said.
Investigating officers spotted Shaofeng Wu, 30, of La Puente driving the allegedly ill-gotten vehicle in his hometown and took him into custody without a struggle, the lieutenant said.
Further investigation also led to the arrest of 53-year-old Hong Ying Ye of La Puente in connection with the crime, Dawkins said.
Both suspects were booked on suspicion of identity theft and released from custody with citations pending legal proceedings, according to Los Angeles County Superior Court booking records.
