[UPDATED] Police arrested a man who they say kidnapped and assaulted his girlfriend in San Gabriel over the weekend, then rammed her car with his own in Pasadena early Wednesday.
Jorge Alberto Velasquez, 43, of Palmdale was booked on suspicion of crimes including kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon and domestic violence, according to Pasadena police officials and Los Angeles County booking records.
The victim, a 35-year-old woman, already had a restraining order issued against Velasquez when he found her driving near a friend’s home in the area of Colorado Boulevard and Eastern Avenue in Pasadena just after midnight, Pasadena police Lt. Sean Dawkins said.
Velasquez sideswiped the victim’s car with his own before fleeing, he said.
A Pasadena police sergeant spotted the suspect driving on the westbound 210 Freeway and ultimately stopped and detained him in Montrose, according to Dawkins.
The woman had visible bruising, which she told police was the result of being assaulted by Velasquez over the weekend while she was “held against her will” at her home in San Gabriel, the lieutenant said.
Further details of the alleged kidnapping were not available Wednesday morning.
According to county booking records, Velasquez was being held without bail pending his initial appearance in Los Angeles County Superior Court.
