A man suspected of domestic violence was arrested Saturday after he refused to surrender to police and held a knife to his chest threatening self-harm, authorities said.
The day-long series of incidents began at 10:10 a.m. Saturday when officers were called to the 2100 block of East Colorado Boulevard after a man and a woman were seen arguing. The argument escalated into a physical confrontation, and the man allegedly punched the woman repeatedly before fleeing the scene.
Officers arrived shortly thereafter and found the 24-year-old woman with visible injuries, according to Pasadena Police Lt. Rudy Lemos.
He said the pair are in a relationship but unmarried.
The suspect, identified as Shannon Grays, 25, of Whittier, was later encountered in the area by patrol officers who approached him, Lemos said. When Grays held a knife to his chest, officers deployed a Taser and took him into custody.
Grays was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital and booked into the Pasadena City Jail on suspicion of domestic abuse, Lemos said.
Grays is being held at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Inmate Reception Center on $150,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, according to online booking records.
Pasadena police Lt. Rudy Lemos said the woman was not seriously injured in the attack.
