A 34-year-old man died when he was struck by a car in Pasadena after apparently walking out in front of the oncoming vehicle late Friday, police said.

The collision took place just before 7:55 p.m. at Arroyo Parkway and Glenarm Street, Pasadena police Lt. Anthony Burgess said.

A woman was approaching the intersection in her vehicle, heading toward a green light, when the pedestrian stepped out into the roadway, he said. The driver was unable to avoid striking him.

Paramedics took the victim, described as a 34-year-old homeless man, to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to Burgess.

There were no initial indications of excessive speed or intoxication on the part of the driver, he said.

Coroner’s officials had not released the identity of the victim on Saturday.
