A Pasadena man who served time in jail for gun possession earlier this year was arrested Wednesday afternoon on suspicion of carrying a loaded gun in public, police said.
Officers were on patrol about 2:35 p.m. when they noticed a man standing next to a car along Virginia Avenue, just south of Colorado Boulevard, Pasadena police Lt. Anthony Burgess said.
As they turned the corner, the officers noticed the man who appeared to hide something in the car as they approached, the lieutenant said.
The officers soon discovered the man had an outstanding warrant related to an alleged probation violation, according to police and Los Angeles County Superior Court records.
Upon further investigation, a loaded handgun was found on the floorboard of the car, Burgess said.
Artis Ray Candler, 20, of Pasadena was booked on suspicion of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, as well as the warrant, Burgess said.
The suspect was convicted of carrying a loaded firearm in public in January and sentenced to 84 days in county jail and two years of probation, according to court records.
Prior convictions in L.A. County also include stalking in 2021, as well as auto theft and receiving stolen property in 2019.
Candler was being held without bail pending his initial court appearance, records show.

He should be free right now. All gun laws are unconstitutional and this is just a waste of tax payers money. Unless he was involved in a violent crime with the gun then he should not be in jail. Not everyone with a gun has to be a criminal.
