A man suffered a gunshot wound to his knee when he was attacked while riding a scooter through Pasadena early Tuesday, authorities said.
The shooting took place shortly before 2:30 a.m. along Walnut Street, between Harkness and Hill avenues, Pasadena police Lt. Sean Dawkins said.
A local man in his mid-30s was riding a kick scooter down the street when a sedan came to a stop in front of him, according to the lieutenant.
A passenger got out of the passenger side of the car, pointed a handgun at the victim and stated “Do you think I’m playing?”
The victim continued walking past the gunman, who opened fire, striking the victim in the back of his knee, Dawkins said.
The car sped west along Walnut Street. A detailed suspect description was not available.
Dawkins said the victim had a cell phone, but it only worked when connected to a wireless internet signal. He made his way to a nearby Jack In The Box restaurant to try to connect to the restaurant’s WiFi, but was unsuccessful.
A witness passed by, saw the wounded man and called for help on his behalf, police said.
The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment of his wound.
A motive in the shooting was not clear.
