Police in Pasadena were on the lookout for a man who they say repeatedly punched a female Goodwill store employee who tried to stop him from stealing clothing last week.

The crime took place about 3:40 p.m. on Friday at the Goodwill Bookstore & Donation Center at 703 N. Lake Ave., according to Pasadena police Lt. Carolyn Gordon.

A man who had been caught stealing from the store on multiple previous occasions was confronted by the victim while trying to steal clothing items, the lieutenant said.

He responded by repeatedly punching the woman, then ran away empty-handed, Gordon said.

Officers found and detained the man believed to be responsible nearby, but the victim did not initially wish to pursue prosecution and the suspect was released.

But the victim informed officials on Tuesday that she did wish to prosecute her alleged attacker, police said. She still had visible bruising on her face.

The suspect remained at large on Wednesday, Gordon said. He was described as a local transient. Officials did not release his identity as they continued searching for him.
