A man suffered a graze wound to his hand when he was shot while confronting two burglars in front of his Pasadena home late Monday, officials said.

The events unfolded shortly after 8 p.m. in the 1000 block of North Hill Avenue, Pasadena police Lt. Pete Hettema said.

A man in his 30s heard noises coming from his gate and spotted two men fleeing from his yard, according to the lieutenant.

The intruders got into a dark-colored 2000 to 2010 Nissan Altima with black rims that was parked in front of the home and began driving away, Hettema said. The resident picked up a rock and used it to smash out the passenger-side window of the suspects’ car.

Hettema said the burglars initially sped away south on Hill Avenue, but then made a U-turn and drove past the victim’s home once more. The driver fired a single gunshot at the victim, who suffered a minor graze wound to his hand. He was not hospitalized.

It was determined the victim’s car parked at his home had been ransacked, police said.

The attackers were described as men in their 20s or 30s. They remained at large Tuesday.
