Metro Implements Phase One of its NextGen Bus Plan

Changes to several bus lines traveling through Pasadena have been changed as part of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transit Authority’s NextGen Bus Plan.  

According to Laura Rubio-Cornejo, Pasadena director of transportation, the NextGen Bus Plan was developed to identify a new competitive bus system in L.A. County that is fast, frequent, reliable, and accessible. 

In 2018, Metro launched the NextGen Bus Study, an effort to reimagine its bus system to better meet the needs of current and future riders.

The plan was reviewed through a series of community engagement activities, the public hearing process, and Metro Service Councils. It was ultimately approved by the Metro board of directors in October.

Metro service change proposals are reviewed by Pasadena staff and comments are provided to minimize the impacts of service changes to Pasadena residents. 

The routes targeted for changes in Pasadena include:

• Route 177: Remains canceled due to COVID. This line has not run since April. 
• Route 258: Segment via Huntington Drive, Oak Knoll Drive to Pasadena/Altadena canceled due to low utilization. The route will now terminate at York/Figueroa after servicing the South Pasadena L (Gold) Line Station. 
• Line 180 will continue to serve Lake Avenue north of Colorado Boulevard with L Line (Gold) rail service linking South Pasadena and Pasadena. 
• Route 762: To maximize service to all stops on major corridors, Metro Rapid lines will be replaced by more frequent service on their partner local lines. Route 762’s partner line, Route 260, will have a 12- to 15-minute frequency, and a 15- to 20-minute base frequency.
