Police said a 42-year-old Pasadena woman who was caring for her five-year-old daughter at her home was attacked Friday morning by a homeless man, but was able to escape with her daughter before she could suffer further injury.

The attack happened in the 100 block of South Daisy Avenue at about 6:43 a.m.

Pasadena police Lt. Mark Goodman said the suspect, a transient about 46 years old, is now in custody but has yet to be positively identified.

He said officers responded to the scene after receiving reports of a disturbance in the area and was able to interview the woman.

“The victim reported she was home with her daughter when she heard a knock on her front door,” Goodman said. “When she answered the door, the suspect entered the home without invitation, and without provocation started to physically assault her. She sustained an injury on her forehead as a result of the assault.”

At one point, the victim was able to escape from the attacked and rushed out of the house with her daughter. She then called 911.

Responding officers spoke with the woman and contained the area with the assistance of the Pasadena police helicopter, believing the suspect was still in the house, Goodman said.

“Officers made entry into the location and the suspect was arrested without incident,” Goodman said. “He was arrested for felony assault, kidnapping and residential burglary, and our investigation is ongoing.”

Goodman said the woman was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. The child was not injured.
