Glendale continues to lead nearby cities in confirmed cases of the Coronavirus.

As of Sunday, the L.A. County Department of Public Health reported 612 cases and 28 deaths in Glendale.

93 cases were reported in South Pasadena, 87 cases in Alhambra, 76 cases in Duarte, 53 cases in Monrovia, 43 cases in Arcadia, 36 cases in La Cañada-Flintridge, San Gabriel 30, and 12 cases in San Marino.

The number of confirmed cases could be due in part to more testing in Glendale. The city is the fourth largest city in Los Angeles County and has three hospitals: Dignity Health, Glendale Memorial Hospital and Health Center, which is a county approved testing site.

“These factors, along with our proactive set up of early testing, has allowed us to test a large amount of people,” the city’s website states.

L.A. County collects and releases the statistics in these cities.

Pasadena along with Long Beach, Vernon and Berkeley are the only cities in California with their own health department.

Los Angeles County continues to represent about half of the cases and deaths across the entire state. Officials in Sacramento reported Saturday that the state has 53,616 cases and 2,215 deaths.

On Friday, Gov. Gavin Newsom said the state is getting closer to reopening.

“We’re getting very close to making very meaningful augmentations to that stay-at-home order. We said ‘weeks, not months’ about four or five days ago. I want to say ‘many days, not weeks,'” Newsom said Friday. “As long as we continue to be prudent and thoughtful in certain modifications, I think we’ll be making some announcements.”

Newsom said he believed “we’re getting very, very close” to lifting restrictions on more businesses, including the retail, hospitality and restaurant sectors. The governor said he’d elaborate on those changes this week.
