No City Council Meetings for Two Weeks

Council is dark for the next two weeks, but here are items that could return when elected officials return to deliberations on Monday, June 13.

Budget hearings are scheduled to continue on the Fiscal Year 2023 Operating Budget.

Some of the city’s most important departments are scheduled to hold workshops at a special meeting of the Public Safety Committee on May 31 before going to the City Council.

The police and fire departments are scheduled to hold workshops along with the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department and Public Health Departments.

Also tentatively scheduled for June 13, approval of the Annual Action Plan (2022-2023) and Related Funding Applications for the Community Development Block Grant, Home Investment Partnership Act, and Emergency Solutions Grant Programs.

Other items include, an application to designate the Josephine P. Everett House/Shakespeare Club of Pasadena at 171 South Grand Avenue as a Historic Monument, and consideration of granting non-exclusive solid waste franchise renewals.

Also, the City Council could soon begin meeting in person.

Last Monday, Mayor Victor Gordo told council members to begin preparing to meet in front of the public.

Council chambers have been closed to the public since the pandemic began almost two years ago.

“All members of the City Council should begin contemplating returning to the Council chambers,” Gordo said. “I think there is a lot lost when we don’t have members of the public in the council chamber.”

Gordo said he thought the public could be allowed back in council chambers in June or July.

The City Council will meet on June 13 and June 20 and then will be dark for another two weeks until July 11.

Amendments to the city’s zoning code that could allow housing on church property could return to the City Council at the July 11 meeting.
