Pasadena public health officials reported no new documented COVID-19 infections or deaths as the city saw its first day under reduced “yellow” tier restrictions, based on state reopening guidelines.

It’s a great way to bring in the “yellow” tier, city spokeswoman Lisa Derderian said.

The city’s pandemic totals remained unchanged at 11,241 cases of COVID-19 and 346 deaths, according to Pasadena Public Health Department data.

But the number of average positive cases over the prior week declined to 3, compared with 3.6 on Tuesday.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health planned to move to “yellow” tier restriction levels, as well.

County officials reported 287 new infections and 21 new deaths on Wednesday, raising the county’s pandemic totals to 1,234,372 cases of the virus and 23,948 fatalities.

Four hundred patients were being treated at L.A. County hospitals for COVID-19, authorities said. A quarter of them were being cared for in intensive care units.

The California Department of Public Health listed 1,388 new infections and 97 fatalities on Wednesday, bringing the statewide totals to 3,646,729 cases of COVID-19 and 60,862 deaths.

The state’s average positivity rate over the prior week increased by a tenth of a percent since Tuesday to 1.2%, according to CDPH data.

As of Wednesday, L.A. County represented 34% of California’s COVID-19 infections and 39% of the state’s fatalities.
