Obituary: Margarita Gaeta

On the rainy evening of Saturday, January 14th, the City of Pasadena lost a loving member of its community. Margarita Gaeta, left us suddenly at 10:58 p.m. Margarita was born in 1944, migrated from Zacatecas to the U.S., and moved to Pasadena, where she lived the rest of her days. One of her favorite things to do was take long walks and admire her city. The city that helped raise her, that taught her many lessons, the city she loved. She never lost her wonder for it; on these walks, she’d discover tiny, new details within the city she had such a connection with.

She became a U.S. citizen as a Deaf, Mute person. She had a spunky, caring, personality. It paired very well with her bright, red hair. Margarita selflessly helped anyone she could, in any way they needed. A nurse recently said “she’s a fighter” as they revived her from cardiac arrest. The 15-day coma she was in 30-plus years ago didn’t stand a chance with Margarita. She lived life on her own terms and at her will.

Margarita is survived by her cat Willie, who was her grumpy sunshine. And by her daughter Esperanza whom she loved with all her heart, until her last days. The kisses she blew on her deathbed were for them, and her loving family. Her loss was sudden and has been felt by many. Let’s “cue in” Frank Sinatra’s “I Did It My Way” because Margarita really did do it her way.

Margarita will be laid to rest at the Mountain View Cemetery.
