[UPDATED] A 26-year-old woman died after being struck by an SUV while walking on the 134 Freeway in Pasadena early Tuesday, authorities said.
The collision took place just after 1:50 a.m. in the westbound lanes of the freeway, west of Fair Oaks Avenue, according to Officer Romero of the California Highway Patrol’s Altadena Office.
The pedestrian, initially listed as a “Jane Doe,” was walking between the No. 3 and No. 4 lanes of westbound traffic when she was struck by a westbound SUV, the officer said in a written statement.
“[The driver] abruptly turned to the left to avoid colliding with Jane Doe but the right front of [her] White Ford Expedition collided with Jane Doe,” Romero said. “After the collision, Jane Doe was subsequently propelled in a northwesterly direction and struck the asphalt roadway.”
Paramedics pronounced the woman dead at the scene, he said. The driver, described as a 40-year-old woman, remained at the scene and cooperated with officers.
By Tuesday afternoon, investigators identified the victim as 26-year-old Nayely A. Reveles Ortega, according to L.A. County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner spokeswoman Sarah Ardalani. No city of residence was listed at the coroner’s office. An autopsy was pending.
No further details were available.
A Sig Alert was issued for the three right-hand lanes of the westbound 134 Freeway for about two hours as authorities conducted an investigation.
