One Street, Two Shootings On Wednesday

Pasadena police said Earlham Street was the scene of two separate shootings Wednesday. A man was injured, but not from gunfire, in the first shooting.

Pasadena police Lt. Anthony Burgess said both shootings were immediately detected by the department’s new automatic gunfire detection system. Field officers were dispatched by the system and in each case arrived three minutes later.

In the first incident, during which 13 shots were detected, police did not receive a single 911 call from residents reporting the gunfire, Burgess said.

In that incident, which occurred at 6:56 a.m., a man reading his mobile phone as he sat in his truck in the 800 block of Earlham was shot at but not struck.

The man was injured by his efforts to evade the fusillade of bullets. He was treated at the scene by Pasadena Fire Dept. paramedics.

The second incident came at 6:49 p.m.  Arriving officers located evidence of the shooting but no victims. Bullet strikes were found in a parked, unoccupied vehicle and a wooden fence, Burgess said.
