Pasadena City College Lancers football team’s freshman cornerback Idrique Carmichael and record-setting sophomore placekicker Justin Vergara have been selected to the All-State and JCGridiron All-American Teams.

Carmichael, a Pasadena High alumnus, was named the Defensive Most Valuable Player of the SCFA American Pacific League and made the Second Team on the All-American squad. He also earned a spot on the All-California First Team Region IV. Carmichael tied for the state lead in interceptions with seven, led PCC with eight pass-breakups, and blocked a punt that led to a team touchdown.

Vergara, from Garfield High, was also named All-California First Team and was chosen to Third Team All-American. He set a PCC single-game record by kicking four field goals in the American Championship Bowl. Vergara was a unanimous All-SCFA First Team selection after his remarkable season of making a state second-leading 14-of-15 on field goals, 21-for-21 on extra point kicks, and scoring 63 points. His 24 touchbacks on kickoffs were among the tops in the state.

The two players were guided this year by PCC Director of Football Operations/Head Coach Robert Tucker. The Lancers finished 9-2 overall and won the SCFA American Pacific League championship.
