Police used a Taser to subdue an intoxicated parolee who charged at officers who responded to a family disturbance in Pasadena on Thursday night, officials said.

The incident began just after 11:40 p.m. when police received a report that an intoxicated man was outside his disabled mother’s home in the 600 block of North Chester Avenue, causing a disturbance and trying to get inside, Pasadena police Lt. Anthony Russo said.

Officers arrived to find the man still in the yard, wearing no pants or shoes, and refusing to leave, he said.

“He became hostile towards officers,” Russo said.

“At one point, he armed himself with a pitchfork,” according to the lieutenant. A family member managed to get the pitchfork away from him.

But the man then charged toward officers, who fired a Taser and took him into custody, he said.

George D. Mayberry, 49, of Pasadena was booked on suspicion of violating parole, according to police and Los Angeles County booking records.

Prior convictions include domestic violence and making criminal threats in 2019, as well as robbery in 2000 and 2004, according to Los Angeles County Superior Court records.

Mayberry was being held without bail, records show. Information regarding his initial court appearance was not available Friday.
