The Pasadena-Altadena Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, a women’s volunteer service organization “committed to enriching, sustaining and ensuring the cultural and economic survival of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry in Pasadena,” has inducted its newest members: Lesli White of Pasadena, Charlene Boudreaux of West Hills, and Giovanna Hughes of Studio City.

“These accomplished ladies did an excellent community service project with the Door of Hope,” a statement by the Pasadena-Altadena Chapter said. “We welcome their many gifts and talents.”

Three new chapter officers were also installed in a recent virtual celebration. They are Pamela Cosse, Vice President for Membership; Dana Webster,  Financial Secretary, and Yvonne Hill, Corresponding Secretary.

The Pasadena-Altadena Chapter of The Links, Inc. is a community service organization with 62 active and alumni members and a “legacy of friends providing service that changes lives.”

“The members of The Links, Inc. are influential decision makers and opinion leaders,” the statement said.

The larger international not-for-profit corporation, The Links, Inc., was founded on November 9, 1946 by Margaret Rosell Hawkins and Sarah Strickland Scott in Philadelphia. As young visionaries, they invited seven of their friends to join them in organizing a new type of inter-city club.

Today, The Links, Inc. membership consists of more than 16,000 professional women of African descent in 299 chapters located in 41 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, and the United Kingdom. It is one of the nation’s oldest and largest volunteer service organizations of extraordinary women who are committed to enriching, sustaining and ensuring the culture and economic survival of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry, according to their website.

The organization focuses on creating transformational programming and impacting lives in communities of color through several programs: Services to Youth, Services to the Arts, National Trends and Services, International Trends and Services, and Health and Human Services.

The Pasadena-Altadena Chapter is one of 61 chapters in 10 states in The Links’ Western Area.

In June 2020, the Chapter awarded a total of $31,500 in scholarships to 14 local high school seniors and college students as part of the organization’s Isaac McClelland Memorial Scholarship Program. Established in 1968, the scholarship program was launched in memory of the late Isaac McClelland, who served as a distinguished African-American Los Angeles City Schools Area Superintendent.

The Chapter also supports several non-profits in the Pasadena-Altadena area providing food and other aid for under-served communities.
