Pasadena startup Capsuben has designed and is testing a new smartphone app that will connect people who enjoy cooking at home and people who simply want to enjoy home-cooked meals.

For health conscious eaters, the app, called xLunch, will help them find the right kind of food establishment for their dietary needs. With the app, chefs, restaurant owners and food bloggers will gain an extra channel of exposure for their brands and products.

Gin Hall, founder and CEO of Capsuben, said the app may seem strange for traditional restaurant owners and chefs who would feel reluctant to offer information on their recipes, but definitely most welcome for food consumers.

“Consumers nowadays tend to feel more confident to their purchases when they are more informed,” Hall says. “It’s especially true for the electronics market, people often browse through a few product reviews before committing to buy. As for food, it will be better if we become more open about recipes and ingredients.”

With the xLunch app, food vendors will be able to curate their weekly menu. Customers will be able to see the ingredient list and cooking recipes before ordering dishes. Users of Capsuben’s earlier product launch, the lunchbox, will get a promotional discount when they get the app. All app users can get connected with mainstream social media websites such as Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. and are able to become registered vendors with xLunch.

With the addition of the xLunch app, the company will use it as a platform to promote the lunchbox by offering a 5 percent discount on transaction fee.

Omar Juvera, the company’s developer, said the app’s beta version will be testing with a close group of audience in the late of July this year, which is likely the same time as Capsuben’s crowd-funding campaign.

Capsuben was formed by Gin Hall in 2015 to promote the benefits of healthy home-made food by introducing of the most versatile lunchbox Capsuben as well as xLunch smartphone app.

Capsuben is the first lunchbox designed and tested to be able to remain easy-to-clean and hygienic after extensive uses. It took 6 months of development and seven design iterations to finally master all the features seen today.

xLunch smartphone app was a later addition to the company by Omar Juvera, the company technical co-founder. Inspired by the Mumbai tiffin lunch delivery system, Juvera initially wanted to economise each dabbawala’s delivery time and costs so that each lunch can be consumed at its freshest moment. His research eventually led to xLunch.
