Pasadena Braces for Three-Day Rainfall

Published on Sunday, February 18, 2024 | 5:03 am

Pasadena is likely in for three more days of rain, with the National Weather Service predicting a 20% chance of rain late Sunday, 70% on Monday, 60% on Tuesday and 40% on Wednesday. The city is expected to see less impact than many other parts of Los Angeles County.

The storm system, affecting Southwestern California from this afternoon through Tuesday, will bring periods of heavy rain, gusty winds, cooler temperatures, and a slight chance of thunderstorms.

Rainfall totals of 2 to 5 inches across valleys are expected through Wednesday, with peak rainfall rates of 0.5 to 1 inch per hour likely. The highest rates are anticipated across south-facing mountain slopes/foothills and any thunderstorms that form.

A Flood Watch for Pasadena will be in effect from late this afternoon through Wednesday morning.

LA County, while projected to see lower rainfall totals compared to Ventura County northward, remains at an elevated risk level due to last week’s heavy rains. Additional flooding/mudslide activity is likely in the coming days.

Temperatures are not expected to change significantly once the rain starts, with highs lingering around the low to mid-60s. This is typical for rain events in February.

Dry weather with warming temperatures is expected to follow on Thursday and Friday, bringing temperatures to near normal for this time of year by Friday.
