Pasadena Death Toll Increases to 25

Five more Pasadena residents infected with the Coronavirus have died, city officials announced on Monday. The new deaths bring the city’s grim toll to 25.

Meanwhile, the city’s health department reported that 249 Pasadena residents have tested positive for the virus. The new tally is up from 15 on Friday.

The city does not update its count over the weekend

All of the fatalities have been linked to the city’s long-term health care facilities.

According to the city’s public health department all of the decedents had underlying health issues and were between 49 and 98.
County officials also reported a big increase on Monday when officials there confirmed 1,491 new cases, more than 1,000 of those cases were attributed to a backlog at a testing site.

According to information released by the state, 63 cases of the virus have occurred at the Brighton Care Center. In total, 20 employees tested positive for the virus and 43 patients.

County officials reported the preliminary findings from a community prevalence study done in partnership with USC and the LRW Group.
According to that study, infections from the COVID-19 are far more widespread and the fatality rate much lower in L.A. County than previously thought.

Eight hundred and sixty-three LA County adults were tested between April 10th and April 14th using serology testing. Based on results of the first round of testing, the research team estimates that approximately 4.1 percent of the county’s adult population has antibody to the virus.

Adjusting this estimate for statistical margin of error implies about 2.8 percent to 5.6 percent of the county’s adult population has antibody to the virus- which translates to approximately 221,000 to 442,000 adults in the county who have had the infection.

That estimate is 28 to 55 times higher than the 7,994 confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported to the county by the time of the study in early April.
The number of COVID-related deaths in the county has now surpassed 600.
