The Pasadena Education Network (PEN), a local non-profit organization that promotes family participation in public education in Pasadena, Altadena and Sierra Madre to benefit all students, has hired Evangelina Rivera as the Director of Community Outreach. Rivera will help PEN expand their reach so all parents can be actively involved in their children’s education.
Since parent involvement is directly related to academic success in children, Rivera will reach out to parents of students in under-served communities to provide them with parent education programs that will help them transition to kindergarten and middle school, and to more effectively engage with their schools.
Rivera, who has a Masters of Arts in Education: Educational Counseling, previously was employed by the Children’s Institute where she worked directly with families, connecting them with their schools and other necessary services. In addition, she has coordinated school-based programs and provided advocacy services for students and families.
Rivera and her husband live in Northwest Pasadena. They have a son who is in kindergarten in the Pasadena Unified School District.
Organizations that provide services to parents in under-served communities and would like arrange for a presentation in English or Spanish about our community’s public schools and how parents can be actively involved with their children’s education, can contact Rivera at eva@penfamilies.org.
