[UPDATED] Pasadena Humane is seeking homes for 21 hamsters after 18 of the rodents were abandoned outside a grocery store in Pasadena last week, and one subsequently gave birth.
The rodents were found left in a single cage on Wednesday outside Sprouts, 39 N. Rosemead Blvd., Pasadena Humane spokesman Jack Hagerman said.
“A good Samaritan informed us that she was leaving Sprouts in Pasadena and happened to come across a cage full of hamsters,” he said. “They appeared to be abandoned with no possible owners in sight.”
Shortly after taking the animals in, one gave birth, “and we suddenly found ourselves with 21 hamsters!,” the organization said via social media.
“Now safe and warm, these hamsters are ready to find loving forever homes,” Pasadena Humane said in a tweet.
Hagerman said the rodents were available for adoption as of Monday.
Those interested in adopting one of the critters can reach Pasadena Humane at (626) 792 -7151, or visit the organization’s website at pasadenahumane.org.
