Not just the Utes and Nittany Lions have a lot on the line Monday: the Pasadena Jaycees are gearing up for game time, too, because program sales in the stadium during the Rose Bowl Game comprise the biggest chunk of funds the community-minded nonprofit collects every year.

Rose Bowl program sales money is used to support all of the organization’s community projects for the year including Operation Santa, Operation Gobbler, 5 Acres Parties, and more.

“It’s our largest fundraiser of the year,” Nick Scott, former President of the Pasadena Junior Chamber of Commerce, also known as Pasadena Jaycees, said. “We heavily rely on this money every year in order to run our organization.”

He explained that the organization needs funds as it was hit hard and had to cut its projects in 2020 because the game was moved to Texas.

“We need it in order to keep going. We were hit pretty hard in 2020 when the game was moved.”

“That year was tough, but then again, we had to cut our projects too.”

Scott assured all the money that will be raised through the program sales goes back to the community.

The chamber has been working with the Tournament of Roses for over 50 years to get the programs distributed to over 90,000 excited fans at the Rose Bowl, according to Scott.

Pasadena Jaycees use the program sales as a fundraising opportunity not just for the organization but for local organizations including high school groups and athletic teams.

“We give them the opportunity to physically sell the programs. So we manage the distribution and then they go out and they physically sell them, and then we give them a percentage of each program so that they can raise money for their organization.”

As of this writing, about eight local youth groups/non-profit organizations have signed up for the Rose Bowl Program Sales.

“About eight different groups signed up at the moment. We still have two groups that are pending. So hopefully we can get those last two groups in there.”

Scott added, “our count right now of physical sellers is about 45, and then I believe our count of the Jaycees themselves, which we will end up selling programs too, if there’s a shortage of people or people go home early or whatever happens. I think we are at about 30 or 35 people at the moment.”

Sellers are required to attend an information session prior to game day and must arrive at the Rose Bowl at 8:00 a.m. and sell until  3:30 p.m.

A total of four booths selling programs will be located inside of the stadium, and a total of three booths will be located outside of the stadium.

This year’s goal is to sell 10,000 programs, according to Scott.

The Rose Bowl programs are sold for $10 each and sellers will earn $1 per program sold. Free Lunch, snacks, and drinks will also be provided to them.

Scott thanked everyone who volunteered to make the fundraiser possible.

“We’re all volunteers, so no one’s getting paid in the Jaycees.”

“And so we’re very appreciative of all the volunteers that we have that donate their free time to make this possible because without the volunteers, we wouldn’t be able to do this.”
