Meshell “Mimi” Sohl is the founder of Mimi et Cie, a fine jewelry shop on Colorado Blvd in Pasadena. Although jewelry is her passion and expertise, she is also well-known in her community for her work supporting schools, hospitals and charitable organizations. So it was no surprise when she decided to organize a Giving Tuesday teddy bear drive to benefit Hillsides, a local multi-service nonprofit.
Every holiday season Hillsides provides gifts, clothing, food and more to thousands of children and families in need across Los Angeles County. Mimi has supported Hillsides over the years in a variety of ways, so organizing a Giving Tuesday fundraiser in preparation for the holidays felt like the perfect gesture to support a cause that is close to her heart.
Every customer who donated a teddy bear to Mimi et Cie’s teddy bear drive was entered into a drawing for a $1,000 gift certificate to the store. After collecting teddy bears through the month of November, she ended up with a generous donation of 46 teddy bears that she presented to Hillsides Chief Advancement Officer, Carrie Espinoza, on Giving Tuesday. The teddy bears will go to children who have suffered trauma and cannot live at home.
