Pasadena Mayor Announces Change of City Hall Meeting Time, Urges Cooperation With Police to Stem Violent Crime

Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo announced a new start time for City Council meetings beginning later this month, as well as implore the public to cooperate with police to stem an uptick in violent crime the city has experienced in recent months.

Pasadena City Council meetings will be taking place Mondays at 4:30 p.m. beginning March 15, rather than at 2 p.m., as has become the recent custom during the pandemic, Mayor Victor Gordo announced in a video address delivered Friday.

The move is being made “to accommodate more public participation,” he said. “After listening to many in the public request that we get back to a more normal meeting time, we’re going to be doing that.”

Gordo also addressed the recent spate of violence in the city.

“Many of you know we’ve had an uptick in violent crime in our city. While overall crime may be down, that’s no consolation to families who are struggling with violent crime in their neighborhood, or who have been affected by the violent crime,” the mayor said.

“I want to encourage all of you to be a part of the solution. Join a neighborhood watch. If you see something, say something,” he said. “Certainly, if you are aware of the identities of any of these perpetrators, please share them with the police. You can do so anonymously.”

I’ve spoken with the police chief, with the city manager and with our city prosecutor, and be assured that all are working very hard, including every officer in our police department, to ensure these crimes are resolved and the perpetrators brought to justice,” Gordo said.

The mayor also reminded the public that the city has recently formed a Housing Task Force and is seeking members.

The deadline for community members to apply for the Police Oversight Committee is approaching on March 15, he added.
