On January 28, Suspect Michael Frank went to Huston’s Restaurant and threatened several employees. The establishment secured a Temporary Workplace Violence Order and notified PPD. The case was assigned to Corporal D. Gomez who learned, through investigation, that Frank had violated the order several times. Corporal D. Gomez shared the information with other members of the police department.  On February 13, Uniformed Patrol Team 6 learned of the want for Suspect Frank. PPD Officers Griffin, Qian, and Sergeant McKinney drove to Frank’s apartment on Holly Street. The officers located Frank and arrested him without incident. Frank was booked at the Pasadena jail.

On February 10, Pasadena Police Canine Officer Widger monitored a request by the Pasadena Air Ship (TFO was Pasadena Police Officer Miles) requesting a K-9 for a scent search. Detectives assigned to a regional narcotics taskforce saw the occupants of two vehicles transfer several heavy bags from one vehicle to another. A traffic stop was conducted on one of the vehicles and Officer Widger and his K-9 partner, Nico, responded to the scene. Officer Widger had Nico conduct a scent search of the car and [located a large amount of] US currency. Excellent police work by Pasadena Police Officers Miles and Officer Widger. K-9 Nico did a great job as well.

On February 10 at 1:19 p.m., Pasadena Police officers responded to the Siesta Inn, 2800 block of East Colorado Boulevard regarding a possible suicide. On arrival, officers talked with the hotel manager who said he opened the victim’s room (Female White, 44 years old, Hollywood Resident) when she failed to check-out. The manager located the victim, who apparently cut her wrists, lying inside the bathtub. He immediately notified PPD. Officers entered the room and saw the lifeless victim. There was no evidence of forced entry or foul play. PPD detectives and the Los Angeles Coroner’s Office were notified. Our preliminary investigation indicated that the victim committed suicide.

On February 12, Pasadena Police detectives assigned to the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) along with officers from the Special Enforcement Section (SES) served a narcotic search warrant in the 1000 block of North Raymond Avenue. The warrant was based on an ongoing drug trafficking investigation. During the search of the residence, 35 kilos of cocaine (77 lbs.), a semi-automatic handgun, and a large amount of currency were recovered. It is likely the cocaine was destined to the streets of Pasadena and surrounding cities. One suspect was taken into custody with incident. Outstanding police work by all the detectives and officers involved.

On February 12, at about 10:28 a.m., Pasadena Police Officers Cass and Polimeni were on routine patrol in a marked police car when they saw a subject walking on the sidewalk smoking marijuana from a glass pipe (common device used to ingest marijuana). When the officers attempted to contact the male, he ran but was ultimately apprehended after a brief physical struggle. Officers discovered the suspect was armed with a loaded .22 caliber “derringer” handgun stolen in Sierra Madre. The suspect later admitted to knowing the gun was stolen and that he had purchased it “off the streets.” The suspect is a male juvenile and he was arrested without further incident. Because of the professional and proactive efforts of Pasadena Police Officers Cass and Polimeni, no one was injured and another dangerous firearm was seized.

On February 12, at about 12:00 p.m., Pasadena Police Officer Banuelos responded to the 1900 block of Queensbury Road regarding three juveniles attempting to steal a vehicle. On arrival, Officer Banuelos saw the suspects, who immediately fled. Officer Banuelos apprehended two suspects by himself and then put out a radio broadcast about the outstanding suspect. Pasadena Police Air Ship (Pilot Gonzales and TFO Smith) was immediately overhead and saw the outstanding suspect run into a nearby backyard. The area was quickly contained and a search-team was formed. The Air Ship crew directed the ground officers to the suspect’s last known location and he was arrested without incident. All three suspects were juveniles. This case is another great example of coordinated effort by Officer Banuelos, other ground units, and the Air Ship. Equally important was the call from the concerned community member who helped prevent a GTA.

On February 12, at about 9:03 p.m., Pasadena Police Officers Morris and J. Calderon were conducting routine patrol in a marked police car near Los Robles and Orange Grove Boulevard as part of the department’s Violence Reduction Effort (VRE) when they observed a vehicle fail to stop for a red traffic light. The officers pursued the vehicle for approximately one block where the suspect collided into a block wall. The suspect was taken into custody without incident and later officers discovered he was on parole for burglary.
