The Pasadena Police Department recently received a generous donation from Dick’s Sporting Goods, a national sporting goods retailer. The donated items will be used to support the department’s youth programs, providing young people in the community with opportunities to engage in sports and recreational activities, as well as to learn important life skills and values.

The Pasadena Police Department’s youth programs, coordinated by Program Coordinator Susana Porras, include the Pasadena Police Activities League and the Police Explorer program. The Pasadena Police Activities League program offers a range of activities for elementary, middle, and high school students, such as arts and crafts, culinary arts, field trips, tutoring, and personal development. The Police Explorer program is for young men and women ages 14-21 and offers opportunities to work with police officers and potentially pursue a career in law enforcement.

Those interested in learning more about the programs or how to get involved can contact Susana Porras at (626) 744-4551. For those between the ages of 9-17 who would like to become a member of Pasadena Police Activities League, they can visit the Salvation Army’s Community Youth Center from Monday 12:00 – 5:00 p.m.; Tuesday – Friday 2:00 – 5:00 p.m.

More information about the Pasadena Police Activities League program can be found on their web page at http://www.pasadenapal.com or by calling the Pasadena Police Activities League Center at (626) 356-9166.

For those interested in the Police Explorer program, they can contact the Explorer Office at (626) 744-3743 for more information and to sign up. The program requires participants to be 14-21 years old, have a minimum “C” GPA, be in good physical condition, have an interest in law enforcement, and a willingness to serve the community of Pasadena. Meetings are held twice a month, the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays at the police station from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and participants are expected to volunteer hours to the city with assistance at city activities and events.
