The search of a suspicious vehicle by a Pasadena police canine officer and his K-9 partner led to the discovery of approximately $1 million in cash inside the car last Tuesday, police said today.

Chief of Police Phillip Sanchez said Officer Matt Widger responded to a request by a Pasadena police helicopter Tactical Flight Officer Irvin Myles for a K-9 scent search of a car.

Moments earlier, detectives assigned to a regional narcotics taskforce had seen the occupants of two vehicles transfer several heavy bags from one vehicle to another, said Chief Sanchez.

The detectives executed a traffic stop on one of the vehicles and Officer Widger and his K-9 partner, Nico, responded to the scene.

“Officer Widger had Nico conduct a scent search of the car and located approximately $1 million dollars in U.S. currency,” Chief Sanchez said. “Excellent police work by Pasadena Police Officers Myles and Widger.  K-9 Nico did a great job as well.”
