Pasadena Police Foundation Distributes 15 Laptops to Local Students

The Pasadena Police Foundation on Thursday once again handed out free laptop computers to college-bound Pasadena Unified School District students.

The gifts were part of an ongoing partnership between the Pasadena Police Foundation and the Police Department in which funds are diverted to support education and the community. More than three-dozen computers have been given out since last year.

A virtual fundraiser held by the organization last year in lieu of the traditional Chief’s Breakfast raised roughly $30,000 to support PUSD tech needs, representatives said.

The HP laptops were purchased with money raised by a Pasadena Police Foundation fundraiser and distributed to the recipients at the Pasadena Police Department.

They were presented to 15 recent PUSD graduates, Pasadena police Lt. William Grisafe said. Fourteen of them are headed for college, while one plans to join the U.S. Navy.

Each was selected by one of six community organizations, he said.

The honorees were: Tae Brooks, Jonah Burton, Ashley Cortes, Kawaii Dorsey, Maeiko Dorsey, Luis Gallegos, Bailey Garcia, Noah Griffin, Nicholas Guerrero, Holly Hulick, Jaden Mathis, David Reina, Elijah Wade, Frankie Washington and Destin Whittaker.

A letter notifying each recipient of their award explained they were selected “after you demonstrated great fortitude during this most challenging school year.”
