A 57-year-old homeless man was arrested outside the Union Station Adult Center in Pasadena Wednesday night after he allegedly assaulted a police officer who responded to a call about the man being erratic and refusing to leave the Center.

Pasadena Police Lt. John Mercado said without any provocation, the man hit the officer hard across the face with a plant stem. The man was identified as Orrin Addis.

Mercado said the department received a call from security personnel at the Adult Center at about 6:15 p.m. about the man causing trouble, and dispatched a team to the area.

“When officers got there, they talked to Addis about what was going on, and he was holding the plant stem and without any indication hit the officer across the head with it,” Mercado said. “He hit him on the forehead and raked him down the side of his face.”

The officer’s partner was able to immediately detain Addis and arrested him with no further incident.

The first officer did not sustain any major injury.

Addis will be charged with assaulting a peace officer, Mercado said.
