Extra Pasadena police officers will be patrolling the streets enforcing traffic violations throughout the day Friday, ahead of a planned sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint later that night, officials said.
Following the citywide enforcement campaign, a checkpoint will be held at an undisclosed location within the city from 6 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday, the Pasadena Police Department said in a written statement.
“The safety of our community is and always will be our mission,” Cmdr. Mark Goodman said. “We are looking for impaired drivers because driving under the influence is dangerous and puts others on the road at risk.”
In addition to intoxicants like alcohol and marijuana, police reminded the public that prescription or over-the-counter medications may also impair a person’s ability to drive.
Funding for Friday’s programs is being provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
