Pasadena Police Release Crime Recap in Community Brief

Department highlights noteworthy incidents

The Pasadena Police Department released its March “Community Brief” on May 5, recapping notable crimes that occurred in the city throughout March 2024. The report, which aims to keep residents informed about public safety issues, detailed and grouped robberies, assaults, and firearm-related incidents that took place during the month.

Robberies/Carjacking

On March 14, 2024, at 2:13 a.m., officers responded to the 7-Eleven regarding a theft from a semi-truck that was unloading. Upon arrival, the suspects had fled in a newer white model SUV. Officers searched the area for the suspect vehicle but were unable to find it. The investigation revealed that while the victim was unloading his vehicle, five male Black suspects, rushed onto the trailer of the truck and began ransacking it. One suspect pulled out a knife and while pointing it at the victim, said “Get out of the trailer, it’s not worth it.” The victim was afraid that he would be stabbed if he did not comply and therefore exited the trailer. All five suspects grabbed several totes containing cigarettes and then fled in the suspect vehicle southbound on Lake Ave. out of sight. The victim was not injured. He provided limited suspect and weapon descriptions. The amount of loss currently is unknown. Case #2024-20116.

On March 22, 2024, at 9:21 p.m., the juvenile victim was walking home from school with his girlfriend when the suspect vehicle pulled up on them in the middle of the street. Suspect #1/#2 approached the victim and started yelling at him. Suspect #1 pinned the victim to a wall while suspect #2 ripped the gold chain from the victim’s neck. The suspects ran back to the vehicle and suspect #3 drove them away. The victim was not injured. The suspects were described as M/B/A, possibly 18, the vehicle is described as a light blue Toyota sedan. Case 2024-16249.

On March 26, 2024, at 4:42 p.m., Officers responded to Los Robles Avenue and Orange Grove Boulevard regarding a robbery that had occurred. The victim was riding his scooter when the suspect vehicle passed him. Suspect #1 exited the vehicle and ran towards the victim, pushing him to the ground. While on the ground, suspect #1 stood over the victim and ripped the loss from his neck. Suspect #1 then attempted to take the victim’s cell phone and wallet from his pant pocket but was unsuccessful. Suspect #1 runs back to the vehicle and gets in the front passenger seat. Suspect #1 and Suspect#2 drove away. The suspect vehicle was described as a gray sedan. The victim sustained minor injuries and refused medical treatment. The suspects were described as M/B/A. One of the males was described as 5 feet 8 inches, 140 pounds, with black hair, wearing a Nike zip-up hoodie and sweatpants. Case #2024-23853.

Recovered Firearms

On March 5, 2024, at 3:19 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop around Howard Street and Navarro Avenue for a vehicle code violation. Just before the traffic stop, a male subject exited the vehicle. Officers contacted the subject who was found to have a firearm and controlled substance. The suspect was arrested for several felony charges.

On March 28, 2024, at 9 a.m., Street Crime Unit Detectives, along with members of the U.S. Marshals Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force, executed a multi-location search warrant in the cities of Lancaster and Inglewood and arrested the suspect for the illegal sales of firearms. During a search of the suspect’s Inglewood address, Detectives recovered two loaded fully automatic “Mac-10” style handguns, one loaded .38-caliber revolver, one 9 mm “Springfield XD” handgun, and ammunition. The suspect was arrested for illegal sales of firearms and other various weapon-related offenses.

Assaults

On March 1, 2024, at 8:59 p.m., Officers responded to the area of Lake Avenue and Maple Street regarding an assault in progress. Before their arrival, the suspect had fled the area on foot. The victim stated that the suspect approached him and without provocation, pushed him to the ground. The suspect then punched and kicked the victim several times before fleeing the scene. The suspect was located a short distance away and resisted attempts by officers to detain him. With the assistance of additional officers, the suspect was detained without force. During the detention, the suspect kicked a police vehicle causing moderate damage, and attempted to bite the officers. The victim refused medical treatment. The suspect was later arrested for assault, elder abuse, felony vandalism, and parole violation.

On March 3, 2024, at 2:33 a.m., Officers were called to Huntington Hospital regarding a stabbing victim who was being treated in the emergency department of the hospital. When officers arrived and spoke to the victim, he was uncooperative and provided limited information regarding what led up to him being in the hospital. The male stated he was involved in a dispute with another male over a comment made about his girlfriend and the suspect attacked him with a knife. Due to the victim’s lack of cooperation, Officers could not obtain more information. The victim remained in the hospital for medical treatment.

On March 23, 2024, at 10:31 p.m., the victims were walking in a parking structure in the 400 block of South Lake Avenue when they were confronted by the suspect. The suspect brandished a 6-inch kitchen knife and challenged the victims to a fight. The suspect cornered the victims in the parking lot before one of the victims called 911. The suspect then fled the area on foot and a broadcast of the suspect information was made over police radio. Approximately an hour later, a Pasadena Police Officer was around Los Robles Avenue and Maple Street and saw a subject matching the description. The officer detained the subject without incident and the victims identified him as the suspect who had brandished the knife and challenged them in the parking structure. The suspect was arrested and booked into the Pasadena Jail.

On March 27, 2024, at 3:20 p.m., Officers were advised by Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies that a stabbing occurred at Memorial Park. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department contacted the victim at the Arcadia Metro Gold Line Station and observed the victim had visible injuries to his abdomen. The victim was transported to a local hospital. The victim who displayed signs of intoxication was interviewed by a Pasadena Police officer.

The victim stated he was walking through Memorial Park and an unknown subject pushed him from the right side of his body. The victim did not feel any pain and continued to walk to the Memorial Park Metro Gold Line Station. While standing on the train platform, the victim realized he was bleeding from his stomach. The victim could not describe the suspect. No witnesses or video surveillance were located that captured the incident. The Pasadena Police Department did not receive any calls of an altercation or fight at the park.
