The Pasadena Police Department is conducting an investigation into a shooting attack where the victim, who was treated and released from an area hospital, was wounded by an unknown assailant late Tuesday night.

“As far as I know we don’t have much information,’’ said Pasadena police Sgt. Roger Roldan. “It seems as though he (the shooting victim) was caught off guard.”

The shooting in the 500 block of North Marengo Avenue occurred about 11:20 p.m., where a senior police sergeant just happened to be in the area and heard the gunshots, Roldan said.

The senior police sergeant canvassed the area prior to the arrival of police officers, who located the victim across the street from where the shooting occurred, he said.

Paramedics rushed the shooting victim to Huntington Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and eventually released.
