Pasadena police used a Taser to subdue a man who barricaded himself inside a bedroom after officers responded to a report of domestic violence late Tuesday, authorities said.

The incident began about 8:30 p.m. when officers responded to a report of a man assaulting a woman at the home the couple shared in the 1100 block of North Summit Avenue, said police Lt. Pete Hettema.

The officers met with the alleged domestic violence victim, who had bruises on her head but declined to be taken to a hospital, Hettema said. The victim, a woman in her 50s, indicated that the suspect was still inside their apartment.

Police made their way into the dwelling, Hettema said, and the suspect had barricaded himself in a bedroom.

The man refused orders to come out and surrender, but eventually opened the door to the bedroom and then retreated back inside, according to the lieutenant.

Officers entered the room and attempted to take the man into custody, but he struggled with them as they tried to place him in handcuffs, Hettema said. They ultimately fired a Taser at the man and took him into custody.

Marvin Wright, 61, of Pasadena was taken to a hospital for examination prior to booking on suspicion of domestic violence, said Hettema.
