The Pasadena Public Health Department (PPHD) issued a warning on Friday, Jan. 19, 2024, advising residents and visitors to avoid eating oysters from certain areas of Mexico due to potential links to outbreaks of stomach illnesses in California.

The areas identified include Laguna De Guerrero Negro, Laguna Manuela in Baja California, and Bahia Salina, Estero Morua in Sonora.

The warning was disseminated via the City of Pasadena’s official Twitter account, @PasadenaGov, at 1:08 pm on Thursday, Jan. 24.

PPHD continues to investigate complaints of stomach illness, including interviewing individuals who submitted complaints and coordinating with the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) to assess any local impacts.

Pasadena residents and visitors can protect themselves from potential illness by avoiding the consumption of raw oysters.

Those who believe they became sick from eating or drinking something at a food facility within Pasadena city limits are encouraged to file a report at the Pasadena Citizen Service Center’s Public Health Restaurant-Food Borne Illness portal.
