The Pasadena City Council’s Public Safety Committee on Wednesday will go over a recommendation from the Pasadena Public Health Department to enter into an agreement with the California Board of State and Community Corrections in connection with a California Violence Intervention and Prevention (CalVIP) grant.
If approved by the Committee, the recommendation will go before the City Council for final approval.
Two related recommendations will also be considered at the Public Safety Committee meeting: to amend the 2023 operating budget of the Public Health Department and appropriate $684,909 in CalVIP funds and increase the Department’s personnel allocation by one additional full-time employee, and to authorize the City Manager to enter into a contract with D-Veal Corp. for multidimensional family therapy services for three years without requiring a competitive bidding. The contract will cost $1.14 million.
In June, the Public Health Department was awarded $2,510,394 through the CalVIP Grant Program. The grant will be used to support the Pasadena Intervention and Prevention Project (PIPP), which the Department is administering, for three years – from July 2022 through June 30, 2025.
Part of the funds will also be used to cover the D-Veal Corp. contract for the multidimensional family therapy services.
The Health Department, according to a report prepared for the City Council, is also proposing to pursue contracts with other providers in support of the Intervention and Prevention Project, such as two community partners to deliver youth supportive services, one youth-focused gang outreach worker, one co-facilitator for the service provider consortium, five consortium workgroup leads, and one external evaluator.
