Pasadena Rep. Judy Chu to Lead Asian Pacific American Caucus PAC in Endorsing Clinton

Pasadena area Congresswoman Judy Chu and Rep. Doris Matsui of Sacramento will lead the political committee of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) in endorsing Hillary Clinton for the presidency next week.

The formal endorsement is expected to be announced in San Gabriel Tuesday in an assembly of Asian and Pacific Islander elected officials from throughout California who are endorsing Clinton, the Times of San Diego reports.

Chu and all of California’s other congressional representatives of Asian descent earlier announced they are supporting Clinton for president.

Times of San Diego quotes a survey released last week by Asian Americans Advancing Justice, Asian Pacific Islander American Vote and AAPI Data stating that Clinton is the most favored Presidential candidate in the Asian community.

In the same survey, Donald Trump is viewed very unfavorably. A large proportion has no opinion of Bernie Sanders, the survey said.

Judy Chu was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in July 2009. She represents the 27th Congressional District, which includes Pasadena and the west San Gabriel Valley of southern California.

Rep. Chu currently serves on the House Judiciary Committee, where she is a member of the Subcommittees on Intellectual Property and the Internet as well as Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security and Investigations.

Chu also serves on the House Small Business Committee which has oversight of the Small Business Administration. She is the ranking member of the Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Tax and Capital Access. She is also a member of the Subcommittees on Subcontracting and Workforce as well as a member of the Subcommittee on Health and Technology.

In 2011, Chu was elected Chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, which advocates for the needs and concerns of the Asian American and Pacific Islander community across the nation.
