Pasadena Reports 127 New Cases and 3 COVID-Related Deaths on Sunday

City officials reported three new deaths and 127 new coronavirus infections on Sunday.

All told, the city has reported 6,297 coronavirus infections, said Pasadena Public Information Officer Lisa Derderian.

“These are community deaths and the exposure to the virus is currently unknown,” Derderian said.

The fatalities were reported as local health officials planned to expand its rollout of the vaccine for the virus on Monday.

Firefighters were scheduled to begin receiving the virus at the conclusion of their shift on Monday. A second round of firefighters will be vaccinated on Wednesday. 

Senior residents will also begin receiving the virus on Monday. 

The virus continues to impact Huntington Hospital which reported 12 new patients battling the virus had been admitted on Sunday, bringing the total number of patients in the facility to 189. Thirty of those patients are in the hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU).

“Anyone who is willing to be honest with the facts and the timeline of the rising case counts, and the reality that is bombarding our hospitals, must accept that our collective behaviors as a community of Los Angeles County in the days around Thanksgiving directly led to our rising rates of hospitalizations and the rising deaths that we are now experiencing,” L.A. County Health Services Director Dr. Christina Ghaly said Wednesday. 

“Well-intentioned desires to see family and friends that we haven’t seen a while and to share time off over the holidays with those we love has resulted in more people getting very, very sick and has pushed our hospital system to the place it is today,” Ghaly said.
