Pasadena resident Raffi Hamparian, a respected Armenian-American community leader, will be the next national chairman of the Armenian National Committee of America, a report on the Los Angeles-based Asbarez Newspaper said Friday.

Hamparian will succeed longtime ANCA leader Ken Hachikian, who will continue his tenure on the national board and expand his portfolio of community responsibilities, the report said.

“I welcome this new opportunity to serve the Armenian American community and build bridges that will strengthen the Armenian Nation,” Hamparian told Azbares. “When we work together, when we dream together, when we unite for a common purpose – there is nothing the ANCA cannot achieve.”

Hamparian was born in New York City and raised in New Jersey. He is a graduate of Rutgers, the state university of New Jersey, where he also earned a Master’s Degree in International Relations.

He has worked for a number of members of Congress, most recently as the chief foreign affairs aide for former New Jersey Congressman Steven R. Rothman.

Hamparian currently serves as the Director of Federal Affairs for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

Hamparian started his activism as a member of the Armenian Youth Federation. He was chairman of the ANCA Pasadena Chapter for a while and served as Executive Director of the ANCA Western Region.

He lives in Pasadena with wife Dr. Mireille Hamparian and children Areni, Zabelle, Meghri and Saro.
