Pasadena Stylist Organizes Day of Pampering for Women in Recovery

In a heartwarming display of community solidarity, a local salon is organizing an event on April 24th to support the Walter Hoving Home in Pasadena, a faith-based, nonprofit organization dedicated to helping women recover from drug addiction and rebuild their lives.

The event, set to take place at a South Lake Avenue salon owned by Brenton Lee, Joseph Rene and Lupita Gomez, will offer the women complimentary haircuts, blowdrying, beauty makeup, nail services, and grooming.

According to Rene, participants will also receive goodie bags from Shanice Beverly Hills and Wella Professional.

“For me personally, as a ward of the Los Angeles County court system years ago, I understand what it is to be down and out,” Rene said. “I understand what it’s like to struggle, to try to better yourself, to be self-sufficient, to be a positive community member of society.”

The Walter Hoving Home, located at 127 South El Molino Avenue in Pasadena, is a residential facility that focuses on faith-based healing and recovery for women aged 18 and over who have been involved in drug addiction and other challenges. The home, which reportedly has a capacity to care for 50 women, is known for its unique approach to rehabilitation, emphasizing faith and community support over conventional medical or therapeutic methods.

Founded in 1967, the Walter Hoving Home has assisted thousands of women in rebuilding their lives. In January 1999, the organization acquired the historic Mira Monte Hotel on El Molino Ave., which required significant repairs. With the support of local individuals and groups, each room was adopted and refurbished, transforming the facility into a place of hope and healing.

The upcoming event organized by Rene aims to provide a day of pampering and self-care for the women of the Walter Hoving Home, fostering a sense of community and support.

“We’re happy that Walter Hoving Home is our recipient for the month of April,” Rene said. We’re very excited about that, and we look forward to seeing everyone.”

The Walter Hoving Home relies on the community’s support to continue its mission of helping women overcome addiction and rebuild their lives. The organization also hosts events like the Pasadena Christmas Tea to engage with the community and share stories of hope and redemption from the women who have been part of the program.

As the event approaches, Rene is encouraging the local community to get involved by making donations of women’s toiletries and household cleaning items, two things the Walter Hoving Home is in desperate need of, he said.

He may be contacted at (626) 243-3123. The salon is at 573 S. Lake Avenue, Pasadena.
