Rent control advocates are scheduled to address the media and the community at 1 p.m. on Monday, December 12 on the steps of Pasadena City Hall.

Last month control rent control supporters scored a major victory when Measure H passed at the ballot.

Measure H amends the City Charter creating rent control, eviction protections, a rental registry, and a rental housing board.

Nearly 54% of the voters supported the measure.

Confirmed speakers include Councilmember Jess Rivas, Union Station Homeless Services CEO Anne Miskey, National Day Laborer Organizing Network Co-Executive Director Pablo Alvarado, affordable housing provider and advocate Michelle White, and former City Council candidate and current District 3 Council seat applicant Brandon Lamar.

Union members and campaign leaders are expected to speak about the significance of the Measure H victory, release a new tenant toolkit to help tenants understand their new rights and protections under Measure H, and call upon the Mayor and members of the City Council to speedily and in good faith implement Measure H.

Leaders of the campaign, along with supporters from community based organizations, will be on hand to answer questions about the provisions of Measure H, the timeline for implementation, and next steps to ensure that the city carries out the will of the people to protect tenants as directed by Measure H.

The press conference will precede the 3:30 p.m. swearing in of freshly elected Councilmembers and Measure H supporters, incumbent Jess Rivas and newcomer Jason Lyon.
