More than 2,253 men and women who qualified for the position of Firefighter Trainee are testing this week at the Pasadena Convention Center, in the first first phase of their journey towards becoming firefighters in the City of Pasadena.
Trainees will take a written test consisting of interpersonal, educational, practical and emotional skills and judgement. It is the first testing by the City for new firefighters since 2013.
More than 711 applicants tested Wednesday morning and another 784 applicants will test in the afternoon. March 3 will see another 758 applicants take the written exam.
The entire process of becoming a firefighter can take about 4-6 months, according to Fire Department spokesperson Lisa Derderian, including background checks, physical testing and final interviews, including one by the City’s fire chief.
The Pasadena Fire Department currently consists of 180 full time employees and 153 shift personnel.
