Pasadena city officials are planning an online tribute to the nation’s military members next Wednesday in observance of Veterans Day.

With the COVID-19 pandemic still making public gatherings impossible, this year’s veterans’ tribute will be “slightly different,” city officials said in a written statement.

“The Pasadena Veterans Day Committee, in collaboration with Pasadena Media, has produced a special one-hour tribute that will be broadcast at 11 a.m. on Wednesday,” the statement said.

U.S. Marine Corps SSgt. Shamoneka Collins of Pasadena, assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 23rd Marine Regiment, will be featured as the guest speaker. She has been on active duty for more than a decade.

“SSgt. Collins’ awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star in lieu of second award, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal with bronze star in lieu of third award, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal and various other commendations,” according to the city statement.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in allied health and is working on a master’s degree in business administration, with a specialization in supply chain management.

Wednesday’s presentation will be broadcast on KPAS TV, Charter Spectrum Channel 3 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 99, as well as online at pasadenamedia.org/channel/kpas.

A schedule of returns will be posted at pasadenamedia.org/arroyo.
