Eight outstanding high school seniors from Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) schools have been selected recipients of the 2024 Rose Scholarship Program, the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association recently announced.

This year, the program, presented by Citizens Business Bank, awarded a total of $20,000 in scholarships to these deserving graduating seniors, who were selected through an application process that started in January.

Applicants to the program were required to submit a creative piece reflecting their future dreams, goals and aspirations, as well as a one-page reflection explaining their thoughts and emotions during their creative process and photos and a video about their inspiration for the piece.

Applicants were also tasked to obtain a recommendation from a teacher, coach, counselor or community member.

The 2024 ROSE Scholars, in alphabetical order, are Carolina Castillejos from Rose City High School, Trinity Dela Cruz from Marshall Fundamental Secondary School, Lauren Gray from John Muir High School, Andrea Ibarra from Pasadena High School, Eloheem Mahone from John Muir High School, Jasmine Sov from Pasadena High School, Worthy Teems from Marshall Fundamental Secondary School, and Alique Tufenkjian from Marshall Fundamental Secondary School.

“At the Tournament of Roses, we embrace creativity, and the 2024 Rose Scholars represent that notion,”  Ed Morales, President of the 2025 Tournament of Roses, said. “We are delighted to honor these students  and empower them through scholarships to pursue their dreams.”

David A. Brager, President and CEO of Citizens Business Bank, said the bank will continue to support local students in the Pasadena Unified School District. He also commended the  Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association for its significant contribution to education and community enhancement.

The Pasadena Tournament of Roses started the Rose Scholarship Program in 2021, in collaboration with Citizens Business Bank, as the organization was expanding its commitment to supporting education.
